Please check the logfile whether you see any exception there. (File ->
Logging -> Open Logfile).
Maybe you have to increase the log-level first.

What kind of layer are you importing? WFS? Shapefile?

If you are importing a public WFS layer, i could try to reproduce your bug tonight.
