I choose (somewhat unintuitively) File / Symmetric and it makes an encrypted copy of the file. But how do I unencrypt that? Dragging the encrypted file to File manager and choosing "File / Symmetric" does not undo the encryption, and all the "Encrypt" commands are greyed out. -- mailto:app at iki.fi skype:gatestone http://gatestone.jaiku.com tel:+358407505155 home:Espoo,Finland From bernhard at intevation.de Wed Jan 28 10:51:43 2009 From: bernhard at intevation.de (Bernhard Reiter) Date: Wed, 28 Jan 2009 10:51:43 +0100 Subject: [Gpg4win-users-en] Gpg4win-1913-geta In-Reply-To: <4943DC49.4000909@mac.com> References: <4943DC49.4000909@mac.com> Message-ID: <200901281051.43978.bernhard@intevation.de> Charly, On Samstag, 13. I am unsure, but I think this is GPGee, which will be replaced in Gpg4win2 with GpgEX. (GpgEx is more integrated with the development environment and other components of Gpg4win2.) http://gpgee.excelcia.org/ says it can detect the right operation on "decrypt". So maybe you can try it? (Just a wild guess.) A hackish solution would be to use gpg.exe on the command line. GpgEX does not have a symmetric function for encryption files yet, what is your use case for it? Well, I have used symmetric encryption to store my rev certs in an email account, if I lose everything, at least I would be able to reinstall GPG, and then revoke my keys. I would also use it to send my rev certs to very trusted friends, in order they can revoke my keys in case I drop dead or something like that.
