No you can use the mapserver provided by MS4W I have done so myself in the 
past. But I would recommend a newer version such as mapserver 6.2 as those 
packages also provide additional features like support for FileGDB 
datasources or angled symbols.
There are also binaries for 6.2 one available ( 
http://www.gisinternals.com/sdk/ ) So you would not have to build mapserver 
for yourself.
