Hello,

OpenVAS stands for Open Vulnerability Assessment System and is a network
security scanner. It consists of a server component and a set of plugins to
test various vulnerabilities in remote systems and applications.

OpenVAS is Free Software licensed under GNU GPL and a fork of Nessus 2.2.

This present release 0.9.0 is a development release for testing.
It is not intended for production use, especially because no
plugin-feed is available so far.

The main changes compared to Nessus 2.2 are:

* Replaced OpenSSL by GNU/TLS and make SSL mandatory.
* Many cleanups of ancient remains (still many to come)
* Removed various W32-specific elements, because Windows isn't
  a taget system anyway.

For download and installation hints see here:

Allthough this is only a development version, the OpenVAS team
appreciates any test results and further comments.
You can best reach the team via the Discussion mailing
list (see the Support box at http://www.openvas.org).

Best regards

	Jan-Oliver Wagner
