From timb at openvas.org Mon Nov 16 23:15:00 2009 From: timb at openvas.org (Tim Brown) Date: Mon, 16 Nov 2009 22:15:00 +0000 Subject: [Openvas-announce] OpenVAS domains Message-ID: <200911162215.03393.timb@openvas.org> All, I'm very pleased to announce that OpenVAS's domains (openvas.[org|com|net]) have now been transferred to the stewardship of SPI inc, the F/OSS non-profit to which OpenVAS is affiliated. I would like to thank Thomas Reinke, from Security Space who donated the domains to the project. Whilst nothing will change in practical terms (Security Space will continue to act as authoritative resolvers), I hope it will further strengthen OpenVAS's reputation as a vendor neutral F/OSS project operating in the security space. Tim -- Tim Brown From Jan-Oliver.Wagner at greenbone.net Tue Nov 17 08:37:32 2009 From: Jan-Oliver.Wagner at greenbone.net (Jan-Oliver Wagner) Date: Tue, 17 Nov 2009 08:37:32 +0100 Subject: [Openvas-announce] OpenVAS now beyond 15000 Network Vulnerability Tests Message-ID: <200911170837.32504.Jan-Oliver.Wagner@greenbone.net> Passing the 15000th Network Vulnerability Test (NVT) is a perfect occasion to report about the progress of the OpenVAS project[1]. In October 2008 the systematic development of new NVTs started with a base of around 5800 Tests, 10000 was passed in April 2009. The public OpenVAS NVT Feed Service continues to deliver 3-10 new vulnerability tests every day. In July 2009 the OpenVAS development team gathered at the OpenVAS developer conference in Osnabr?ck, Germany. With great success: Major results, apart from the get-together-synergies, are the designs for the upcoming OpenVAS 3.0 which is scheduled for December 2009. OpenVAS 3.0 is already in its beta-phase. Besides a new source code architecture and new features (e.g. IPv6 support) this release essentially prepares the upcoming OpenVAS Manager and OpenVAS Administrator as optional extensions. This combination leverages the vulnerability scanner to a comprehensive vulnerability management solution. Support for OpenVAS 1.0 is discontinued shortly after 3.0 is released. Version 2.0 will be supported at least until January 2011.
