[Openvas-discuss] Problem with nvt in gsa

Thank you,
I had run the --update prior to the scan but killed it because it never stopped.

So this time I ran it again - mind you the openvas-manager was running at the time.

I ran an strace and saw the following:

fcntl64(8, F_SETLK64, {type=F_RDLCK, whence=SEEK_SET, start=1073741824, len=1}, 0xbf9180b4) = -1 EAGAIN (Resource temporarily unavailable)
fcntl64(8, F_SETLK64, {type=F_RDLCK, whence=SEEK_SET, start=1073741824, len=1}, 0xbf9180b4) = -1 EAGAIN (Resource temporarily unavailable)
fcntl64(8, F_SETLK64, {type=F_RDLCK, whence=SEEK_SET, start=1073741824, len=1}, 0xbf9180b4) = -1 EAGAIN (Resource temporarily unavailable)
fcntl64(8, F_SETLK64, {type=F_RDLCK, whence=SEEK_SET, start=1073741824, len=1}, 0xbf9180b4) = -1 EAGAIN (Resource temporarily unavailable)
fcntl64(8, F_SETLK64, {type=F_RDLCK, whence=SEEK_SET, start=1073741824, len=1}, 0xbf9180b4) = -1 EAGAIN (Resource temporarily unavailable)

So I killed the --update and shut down the manager and ran the --update again.
Once I did it with the openvas-manager shut down, it updated successfully and the NVT column is now populated.

Reading through some of the documentation for this, I read where it said this should be able to be run with the manager running or not, but for this CentOS installation, it does not appear that is true.

Just an FYI,

Thanks again!

Alicia Smith

You need to update the db every time you sync with the feed. So if you
update to initialise the db and then sync with the feed, you have to run
the update again to get all the NVTs that came in during the sync.
