From bitdealer at gmail.com Sun May 3 22:10:17 2009 From: bitdealer at gmail.com (Stephan Kleine) Date: Sun, 3 May 2009 22:10:17 +0200 Subject: [Openvas-distro] Debian & Ubuntu builds Message-ID: Hello. Thanks to me getting a bit curious how building for Debian based stuff works and the nice build files included in your packages OBS now also builds for Debian & Ubuntu (the server doesn't get build for Debian 4.0 & Ubuntu 6.06 cause some of the requirements were too old). Further I added init scripts for Fedora & Mandriva which are attached and which I would ask you to add to trunk since it's nice to have them & then getting them maintained in a central place. All that stuff should work but is untested so if you run Fedora, Mandriva, Ubuntu or Debian please be so kind to give it a short try if you find some time. As always, the packages are available from http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/security:/openvas:/STABLE/ . Also I would, once again, like to invite you to use OBS. My offer to help you getting started / osc installed & working still stands and shouldn't take more than 30 minutes at most (hear me Michael ;D) So, thanks in advance for any feedback. Thanks for your contribution! The server should usually build even on those versions IIRC, the build-requirements are probably stricter than they need to be. I'll have a look at this sometime. > Further I added init scripts for Fedora & Mandriva which are attached > and which I would ask you to add to trunk since it's nice to have them > & then getting them maintained in a central place. > > All that stuff should work but is untested so if you run Fedora, > Mandriva, Ubuntu or Debian please be so kind to give it a short try if > you find some time. Could someone using Fedora or Mandriva test Stephan's scripts and let me know the results? > Also I would, once again, like to invite you to use OBS. The plugin package on installation isn't providing me the openvas-nvt-sync command and neither i am getting the plugins directory being installed. Can i have the solution of the same, if could have the debian package instead of installing a source code package available on openvas website download section. Perhaps the rpm-spec-file to deb-file conversion is failing. Not sure whether these guys use alien or something homebrewn. You can install openvas-plugins out of a tar-ball. Thank you very much for reporting this. The problem was that I forgot to add a "compat" file specifying a 5+ level so the stuff was in the tree but wasn't included in the package. This is fixed now and packages are build which will get synced out to the mirrors within the next hours. Please don't hesitate to provide further feedback if you encounter more issues. > seems the openvas-plugins package for Ubuntu and Debian are broken > in this build service. > > Perhaps the rpm-spec-file to deb-file conversion is failing. Not sure whether these > guys use alien or something homebrewn. There are no such conversion processes. I simply use the debian packaging files you provide with your source and modify them a bit where necessary (e.g. the -server one). Regards, Stephan
