[Skencil-users] Odd behavior with upgrade to 0.6.17 and sklatex?

On MacOs 10.4.6 (powerpc)
I recently upgraded to skencil 0.6.17.
I also installed the latest sklatex: 0.9.2.e
I also installed pil-py24 1.1.4-27 after sklatex reported that it 
couldn't find pil (I previously had pil-py23)

sklatex runs, but throws this error:
Error reading line 'bs(505.48,423.137,0)\n'
when I ask for a typeset of "some things"

The result looks a bit odd as well.  Here is a link to an image of

Any suggestions as to what might be going wrong here?
