Subject: [Skencil-users] Join forces for skencil1/sK1? (was: sK1)
Message-ID: <6FAD21BB364ED049906263CF3FB56D9801050C@HERMES.rrs.co.za>
Hi,
I am trying to compile/install sK1 on ubuntu 7.04....
My wife uses coraldraw and I only use linux so this would be a good way
to move the
Last pc in the house to linux too! (ubuntu)
It seems when I run the install.sh that it installs python 2.4.2 but I
already have 2.5.1 installed...
When running Sketch in python 2.4.2 it fails to find the module but if
run in python 2.5 it loads...
Has anyone managed to get sK1 running on ubuntu 7.04?
Thanks
Richard

Thanks for the note.
I guess we should import this into Skencil's distribution at some point. ;)

I personally haven't tried, but I guess that the sk1 people will
have better means to help you as well.

I just tried to compile sK1 in Kubuntu Feisty, and ran into too many
problems to pursue.
I do almost no creation of original vector graphics, but I have a ton of
Corel clipart files I would love to be able to use without booting Windows.
I have Skencil 6.17-7build1 Debian binary installed, but this is all it
gives me:
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

Please contact the Ubuntu packages and report the problem.
Skencil very rarely core-dumps once installed correctly.

Subject: [Skencil-users] noob question: vector editing scanned line drawings?
Message-ID: <13192344.post@talk.nabble.com>
Hi. I'm very new to graphics etc. but pretty experienced computer-wise and
have been hacking at this for a while. Hope someone can tell me if I'm
barking up the wrong format-tree.
I'd like to be able to scan a tracing of my kids' drawings or whatever into
the computer, and do edits/fills etc., as vector images. I've found lots of
conversion software that will take the scanned image from a bit format to a
vector format, but what I wind up with in svg or sk format is a single
object that cannot be edited except as a single unit. So far, all I can see
to do is to trace over the original drawing using curves and editing to
perfection. Isn't there a better way? Thanks!!!

Hi Michael.
It's probable that the drawing you imported is still considered a 'Group'.
Try selecting it and doing an 'ungroup' (in the menu, but probably Ctrl-U
works too).
That should disconnect the elements (still selected, so deselect, and
select only one now).
