No, it's rather a semipermanent problem. Our rate fee has gone up, so 
in an effort to try and keep the traffic volume as low as possible our 
management decided earlier this spring to shut down our FTP service at 
least to everyone outside the campus network. Also I turned off every 
synchronization jobs apart from the CVSup service which has always 
been an internal service.

School starts next week, and I'll keep a close watch on our traffic 
volume during this and the following semester. I'm planning to 
evaluate our traffic volume once every quarter.

If it turns out that our students and staff are mainly to blame for 
the excess traffic volume i.e. the volume stays roughly the same as 
during the previous semester even with the FTP service inaccessible to 
the outside, we might reenable external access to our FTP service.

I'm sorry for not giving you any advance note of our current 
situation. I'll try and let you know should we decide to open our FTP 
service again.
